Monday 29th June

Good Morning Key Stage 2!

As always - please remember to just manage what you can and take things at your own pace. There is no expectation that you need to complete absolutely everything, everyday.

Wow - What amazing leaflets! You have worked so hard to produce these. I am very proud of you all. You can find pictures of your amazing work in the virtual gallery.

I hope you had a lovely weekend, enjoyed the sun and are fully refreshed ready for another week full of home learning fun. To make things a little bit easier for you in the last few weeks of the summer term, I have made a timetable that might help you to keep on track.

This week we are going to be thinking about nature, specifically Wildflowers and topic is going to lead our home learning. You will find this at the top of the page every day.

Before you get started, join in with Oti and the Minions.

By the end of the week you will have produced several pieces of work investigating the wonders of flowers. We will discover some amazing facts, create beautiful art and investigate super science.

Today you are going to be scientists; specifically plant detectives.

You are going to investigate whether putting a white flower in coloured water changes the colour of it's petals.

First of all, remind yourself of your basic plant knowledge by looking at BBC Bitesize.

Before you begin your investigation, you need to write up your aim and predictions. Watch my video to find out how.

You will need:

  • Home learning book (double page spread)
  • Handwriting pen
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

Key Vocabulary

  • stem
  • transport
  • transpiration
  • petals
  • saturated

Watch this video for your instructions today!

Handy Hint:

  • use more food colouring for better results
  • you might want to leave this investigation for a few days to see better results

English - Reading/Spelling

Today your task is to read a chapter or two of a book of your choice out loud to an adult. Remember to read with expression, taking care of punctuation in the text as you read.

Click on the powerpoint and play a game of Boggle. How many points can you get?

English - Writing

Transition Project

This week your writing is going to be a little bit different. You are going to work on a fact file, adding new information each day, to give to your new teacher for September. This fact file is the perfect opportunity for you to tell your new teacher a little bit more about you!

Hopefully this will be an enjoyable activity and will give you a break from our usual writing routine.I have included a template to guide you however if possible, create your fact file in your own style, without using the template. You might like to use this as an opportunity to be creative! Finished fact files will not be published on the website, but given to the next class teacher of each child.

If you are in Year 6, why not use this time to create a book of memories about your time at East Farleigh.

There will be further information on transition from Mr Rivers soon.

A Fact File All About Me.pdf

Today, I would like you to fill in 'a brief introduction.'

You don't need to send me a picture of each section every day. Just send me the finished fact file at the end of the week!

This week I will set you a series of problem solving activities based on everything you have learnt this year. Today I would like you to play a game of Nim. Can you be the first to work out a winning strategy?
