Thursday 11th June

Good Morning Key Stage 2!

As always - please remember to just manage what you can and take things at your own pace. There is no expectation that you need to complete absolutely everything, everyday.

I really enjoyed reading the end of your adventure stories. I can't wait to go through them and create a shared piece.

Get ready for the day and have a go at the blindfold obstacle course.

Remember to log onto Spelling Shed and Times Table Rock Stars daily. I will check these and every Friday will celebrate your achievements in our KS2 Hall of Fame!

English - Writing

Today I would like you to edit and improve all of your adventure narrative writing. Don't forget to think carefully about spellings and punctuation.

These are the words that you should be able to spell accurately by the end of year 4 and 6 - make sure you have correctly spelt these words (or words with similar spelling patterns) in your work.

Maths

Our maths lessons will be split in two this term. If you are in Years 3 or 4 you need to look for the heading LKS2, if you are in Years 5 or 6 you need to look for the heading UKS2.

LKS2

Your unit of learning in maths for the next few weeks is 'geometry - angles and shapes'.

To get your brain warmed up, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • how many of these shapes have at least one right angle?

Year 3 - Today you are learning about right angles in shapes. Have a go at the questions.

Year 4 - Today you are learning about comparing and ordering angles. Have a go at the questions.

UKS2

To get your brain warmed up, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • Measure the angle where the plain red strip of paper crosses a dotted strip. Is it the same each time?
  • How can you move the plain red strip of paper so that it is parallel to the stripy blue strip of paper? Does it help to notice if there are any perpendicular lines?

Year 5 -Today you are learning about parallel and perpendicular lines. Have a go at the questions.

Year 6 - Today you are learning about parts of a circle. Have a go at the questions.

Topic/Creative

This afternoon you have another STEM activity to complete. This afternoon you are going to learn about bioluminescence - this is is chemical reaction that some organisms can control to give out light.

First, watch the video clip on YouTube.

Think about the purpose of light. Why is this useful to creatures? For example, could it be to warn predators that the creature is not good to eat, to lure prey, or to communicate? How could bioluminescence help humans? For example, glow-in-the-dark coats could keep children safe when walking outside in the dark.

Your Task

Your challenge is to make a coat that would help you stay visible in the dark.

You will need:

  • paint (glow in the dark paint is ideal)
  • black bin bags
  • a container
  • paintbrushes
