Thursday 18th June

Good Morning Key Stage 2!

As always - please remember to just manage what you can and take things at your own pace. There is no expectation that you need to complete absolutely everything, everyday.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be leading an online assembly on mental well-being among children

Today, the Duchess of Cambridge will lead an online assembly for the Oak National Academy, during which she will speak about the importance of mental well-being among children. The theme of the Duchess’ assembly is ‘spread a little kindness’ and it was developed in collaboration with children’s mental health charity Place2Be. It encourages children to explore ways in which they can show kindness and recognise the benefits of kindness to others.

The assembly will be live on the Oak National Academy website at 11am on Thursday 18 June and can be accessed here:

A recording of the assembly will be available to view on the Oak National Academy website following the event.

Get yourself warmed up for the day and join in with Joe Wicks!

Don't forget to log on to TTRS and Spelling Shed. I will celebrate your achievements tomorrow in the Hall of Fame.

Our maths lessons will be split in two this term. If you are in Years 3 or 4 you need to look for the heading LKS2, if you are in Years 5 or 6 you need to look for the heading UKS2.

Your unit of learning in maths for the next few weeks is 'geometry - angles and shapes'.

To get your brain warmed up, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • How many 10cm squares can you make out of a strip of paper like Kate's? It's 29cm wide and 7mm wide. How can you do this accurately?
  • How wide is the piece of paper that is left over?

Year 3 today you are learning about drawing accurately. Year 4 you are learning about triangles.

Year 5 you are continuing to think about geometry. Year 6 you are continuing to think about problem solving, using the skills you've already learnt.

To get your brain warmed up, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • Reflect the point T in the mirror line. What are the true coordinates of the letter T?
  • There is a secret cave at the reflection of coordinates (6,8). What are the coordinates of the secret cave?

Year 5 today you are learning about reflection using coordinates. Year 6 you are learning about problem solving using negative numbers.

This afternoon your task is a Science STEM lesson using computing. We are continuing with our focus on animal adaptations and thinking about how animals communicate non-verbally using movement, light, chemicals or chemical signs. I would like you to use Scratch to create your own signalling system using simple code. First of all, research squids

Use Scratch to create a program where a fish changes colour to show there is danger.
