Good Morning Key Stage 2!

As always - please remember to just manage what you can and take things at your own pace. There is no expectation that you need to complete absolutely everything, everyday.

Wow! I was so impressed by the work you sent through yesterday. You should be really proud of yourselves. I have uploaded your work to the virtual classroom.

Get yourself warmed up for the day by finding and joining in with a 'just dance' video on Youtube. Make sure you ask your parent's permission first.

Remember to log onto Spelling Shed and Times Table Rock Stars daily. I will check these every Friday and will celebrate your achievements in our KS2 Hall of Fame!

English - Writing

I hope you are enjoying writing your adventure story. Today I would like something to happen whilst you are in the secret passage. I know that you have been keen to get to this point in the story and it's quite tricky not giving too much away.

Use the noticing lens to describe the passage.

Use adverbial phrases to start sentences in a variety of ways (remember to always follow an adverbial phrase with a comma).

Think carefully about varying sentence length. Sometimes a short sentence is more effective than a long one.

English - Reading

Today I would like you to think about developing your inference skills. Look carefully at the picture then answer the following questions in as much detail as possible.

  • Where is this?
  • Where is the light coming from?
  • Who are all of the people?
  • Why is the man in the red hat dressed differently to everyone else?
  • How do you think the others feel towards him? How does he feel towards the others?
  • Do you think he feels proud to be different? Or could he feel ashamed?
  • Have you ever done something that made you stand out? How did it feel?
  • Do you think people should try to fit in? When is it good to be different? When is it bad?
  • Research historical figures who are known for being different, or for standing up for change.

Maths

Our maths lessons will be split in two this term. If you are in Years 3 or 4 you need to look for the heading LKS2, if you are in Years 5 or 6 you need to look for the heading UKS2.

LKS2 - Your unit of learning for the next few weeks is 'time'.

To get your brain warmed up this morning, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • how long does it take the farmer to plough the field?
  • when the farmer has finished ploughing, how many minutes go by before he has a cup of tea?

Year 3 today you are learning about 'finding the duration'. The time something takes is called the 'duration'.

UKS2 Year 5 - Your unit of learning is developing the work that you have completed on 'angles' and moving on to properties of shape. Have a look at the topic web to remind yourself of your existing knowledge, then have a go at the questions.

Year 6 - today you are learning about 'vertically opposite angles'. Have a go at the questions.

Year 4 today you are continuing to solve time problems.

To get your brain warmed up this morning, see if you can answer the following questions:

  • which lines on the gates are parallel?
  • Explain why the diagonal lines on the gate are not parallel.

We can show parallel lines by using arrow markings.

Topic/Creative

In this afternoon's PE lesson you will be working on developing your own strength using your body weight. You will need an adult or sibling to help you.

Number game:

Run around a safe space, on command, complete the action. After you have completed the action continue jogging.

  • one - touch the ground
  • two - two tuck jumps
  • three - three star jumps

Six to one:

Complete six repetitions of each activity, then five, four, three, two then one on the final round. Make this easier by trying four to one, or harder by trying nine to one.
