Colour mixing
Year 3 have been busy developing their artistic skills by exploring colour theory and learning how to mix colours to achieve the perfect shade. As part of their art learning, the children investigated primary and secondary colours, discovering how new colours can be created by carefully mixing different amounts of paint.
Yesterday's lesson involved a colour-matching challenge, where pupils were given a target colour and tasked with recreating it as accurately as possible. This required careful observation, patience and plenty of problem-solving, as the children adjusted their mixes and reflected on how small changes could make a big difference.
Throughout the sessions, pupils confidently used art vocabulary to explain their choices and shared strategies with their classmates. The activity not only strengthened their understanding of colour theory but also encouraged creativity, collaboration and perseverance.
Year 3 showed fantastic focus and enthusiasm, producing some impressive colour matches and gaining a deeper appreciation of how artists use colour to create different effects. A brilliant example of learning through creativity!
