Year 2 go wild at Wingham!
A roar-some day out!
As part of our 'Animals, including Humans' unit in Science, Class Two took a trip to Wingham Wildlife Park to find out more!
The children enjoyed an engaging expert-led Life Cycles talk where we built on our knowledge from the previous week's Science session, exploring how different animals and plants grow and change throughout their lives, and how each of them contribute to the circle of life. We then did a workshop on Animal Diets, where we discovered the differences between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, and how animals’ diets are adapted to their natural habitats. We then had a hands-on investigation of animal 'poo', using what we had learnt to help us decide which diet it followed and which animal it could be from!
Then, we explored the park! From Rod-Stuart impersonator chickens to ginormous giraffes (and a chorus of 'hi-ya!' when they swung their necks), we saw lots of wonderful creatures. We were lucky enough to watch the penguins and capybara be fed and to watch their newest baby monkey be fed its bottle! We spotted Joeys and Kangaroo, Lions and Tigers, curious Meerkats, fabulous Flamingo and adorable Red Pandas! One of the reptiles even smiled for our photo!
It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to deepen their understanding of our science topic through hands-on experiences and close encounters with a wide range of fascinating creatures! We had a fabulous day out!
