Toilet roll timelines
This week, Year 4 stepped back in time to explore the fascinating period between 410AD and 1066. Using creative timeline projects made from (clean!) toilet rolls, the children carefully sequenced 30 important historical events, developing their understanding of chronology and the changing Britain of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking eras.
Key moments included the coronation of Alfred the Great, the Viking invasion of Lindisfarne and the establishment of the Danelaw. After discussing and evaluating the significance of each event, pupils selected the six most important dates and justified their choices using historical reasoning.
The class then began designing impressive Museum Exhibit boards to present their discoveries, combining artwork, research and written explanations. It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork and growing confidence as young historians,
