The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Using the book 'BucQUEENham Palace', kindly gifted by Kent County Council, we had enormous fun learning about the history of the British monarchy. We talked about the power of women, namely our two longest serving monarchs, and delved into the history and evolution of Buckingham Palace; we even learned about our National Anthem! This learning paved the way for an excellent, whole-school jubilee inspired day.

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the photos from the day; in the words of one child, "This is the best day ever!"

Year 1 and Year 2 created portraits of the Queen for an exhibition at The Royal Star Arcade in Maidstone.

"I just wanted to write to thank you for agreeing to participate in the event at the Royal Star Arcade and providing us with 60 fantastic portraits of the Queen!

The event was very successful, we had a great deal of interest in the art and lots of parents made the time to come and visit and the children kept our face painter very busy!

From all of us, thank you to you and the teachers involved in this project and most importantly, the children for their fantastic works of art."

We finger painted the Union flag, created a giant card collage of Buckingham Palace, made pen soldiers and added jewels to the silhouettes of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

We enjoyed parading and sitting together as a whole-school for a street party inspired Jubilee lunch.

We worked together to improve the 'green canopy' of our school and the surrounding grounds.
